Welcome from the Head Delegate

Our Model United Nations team has established itself as a force to be reckoned with on the collegiate circuit.

In 2025, our Model United Nations team made history by becoming the first team ever to be ranked #1 in North America for four consecutive years on Best Delegate. This milestone represents the relentless work ethic, competitive spirit, and commitment to excellence that has defined AUMUN since its founding. Just 11 years ago, we were an unranked program. Today, our meteoric rise to the top stands as proof of what determination and community can achieve.

AUMUN’s unmatched success can be attributed to our rigorous training, dedicated leadership, and, above all, the commitment of our members - both new and returning. We are a tight-knit and diverse community, with students from across every sphere of life at American University. Many of our delegates came to AUMUN with no prior Model UN experience, but all of us share a passion for diplomacy and a drive to push beyond our limits.

Being part of an elite community of intellectually curious and driven individuals is one of the most rewarding experiences college can offer. This team has challenged me to grow in ways the classroom never could: to think on my feet, to speak with confidence, and to lead with intention. Thanks to the steadfast support of the School of International Service, our members also gain opportunities to build nationwide networks, refine professional skills, and engage with real-world issues that extend far beyond the committee room.

As we look ahead, I encourage anyone who is passionate about diplomacy, discipline, and community to consider trying out for AUMUN. Joining this team means becoming part of a legacy of excellence, and more importantly, shaping the next chapter of it. We cannot wait to welcome the next generation of leaders who will carry this tradition forward!

Interested in joining?

The next tryouts for the American University Model United Nations team will be held on Saturday, September 13 and Sunday, September 14. Tryouts are generally highly competitive, and all members must participate each semester.

Strong candidates for the team demonstrate developed speaking and interpersonal skills. Previous MUN experience is not required. Candidates to join the team may also be asked to participate in an interview with team leadership. In order to attend tryouts, individuals must apply to become a member of AMIRS through the Common Application.

OUR HISTORY

“American University’s success story, rising in the ranks over the course of a few short years was nothing short of a feat, made possible only by the sheer passion, drive, and dedication of its members, what we all consider to be family. Our continued success lies in the determination of its members, veteran and new, to never stay stagnant. They are, put simply, a force that continues to be reckoned with. It’s evidenced by the record-breaking point achievements to the perpetual late nights of not just training, but genuine friendship like no other. AUMUN has and will continue to dominate the circuit with some of the best competitors there are. They dominate not only in their friendship, compassion, and loyalty to each other but also in their call to foster a new age of inclusivity and equity in the circuit. The powerhouse that is AUMUN looks forward to the upcoming season with a team and a family that will hopefully stop taking “tokens” from conference hotels, will continue to have major water wars and extensive debriefs and will usher in our new incoming class with the same rigor and passion for MUN and diplomacy. Last year, we achieved our highest rank ever, and it wasn’t even close. We can’t wait for the year to come!”

Our All Stars

AUMUN stars continue to shine on the circuit

Because of our commitment to being the most diplomatic delegates on the circuit, AUMUN members have been rewarded year after year with positions on the Best Delegate collegiate All-Stars list. Voted by their peers both on AUMUN and across the circuit, this reflects the continued persistence of AUMUN to go above and beyond. Below are each of our delegates who have been honored, and the year(s) they received their commendation.
