About WIRC

The Washington International Relations Conference (WIRC) is a one-day Model United Nations training conference held on the campus of American University in Washington, DC. Our conference is dedicated to introducing and enhancing the experience of Model UN for high school advisors and students across the country, whether this is a school’s first or twentieth conference. At the core of our conference is a desire to teach and develop essential skills, share enthusiasm for International Relations, and empower young delegates to engage with the world around them.

This year’s WIRC was held on November 3, 2019.

Our conference is completely student run. If you are interested in helping staff WIRC, please reach out to milena@au-amirs.com

Our Impact

From Poolesville High School down the road in Maryland, to The Knox School in downstate New York, to Hershey High School in Southeastern Pennsylvania, WIRC has welcomed high schools from across the East Coast, all bound by a fundamental belief in the power of exchange. Veteran and novice Model United Nations teams have shared workshops, committee, and faculty meeting spaces, each bringing a unique perspective to the conversations in which we’ve all engaged. What has emerged is an unmatched community, committed to mutual encouragement and support, a global education, and most importantly, the empowerment of a future generation of young leaders. Over the years, AMIRS has changed leadership, conference structures, and delegate services, among other things. But what has remained has been this community of schools across the country, now even broader than the DMV. WIRC is so thankful and excited to continue serving this group of dedicated advisors and students, which has enriched AU International Society with its continued support and active participation.
