Leadership
Welcome.
WIRC Gives Back to the DMV Community.
Collaboration, communication, diplomacy, negotiation, public speaking, and research--these are small components of the vast skill set that Model United Nations provides delegates. But the Washington International Relations Conference is more than that. WIRC is a unique forum of empowerment for high school students to find their voices on the international stage and confidently engage with the issues around them. With the current state of global affairs, there is unprecedented need for student participation in political discourse and action. WIRC fulfills this need by bridging the gap between the common high school curriculum and our global society. It is with utmost sincerity and enthusiasm that I welcome a new year of continued engagement with and encouragement of the future leaders that attend our conference every year. WIRC VII, let’s do this.
Milena Bovovic
Charge D’Affairs
milena@au-amirs.com
Secretariat
The Secretariat, the principle executive organ of WIRC, is organized along departmental lines with each member leading an department or having a distinct area of action and responsibility. Departments coordinate with each other to ensure cohesion as they carry out the day to day work and execution of WIRC. At the head of the WIRC Secretariat is the Charge D’Affairs.
Milena Bozovic
Charge D’Affairs
Milena is a junior at American University, majoring in International Relations and minoring in Spanish. Originally from New Jersey (like pretty much everyone else from AU), Milena participated on and led her high school’s Model UN team. After joining AmeriMUNC's crisis staff her freshman year, Milena served as Director of Communications for WIRC VI, and Director of Education for AmeriMUNC VI this past year. She absolutely cannot wait to further share her enthusiasm for Model UN and IR at WIRC VII as Charge D'Affaires. When she’s not swamped with readings for her IR classes or procrastinating reading them with MUN stuff, Milena is probably searching for the best mint chocolate chip ice cream in DC, reading the Harry Potter books, or dealing with her incessant case of the hiccups
Steven Goodall
Director of Committees
Steven is a Sophomore on a three-year track at American University and he is majoring in Communications, Legal Studies, Economics, and Government (CLEG) with a minor in International Relations. Originally from sunny South Florida, Steven came to the second largest swamp in the United States in hopes of one day working inside government. While in high school, Steven served as both a member of his school's student government, county association of student governments, and Model UN Team. Steven is a certified parliamentarian, something he has learned is not that impressive to people younger than fifty, but at least he got a gavel! When Steven is not working or studying you can definitely find him watching highlights from a Patriots game or watching The West Wing on Netflix.
Dean Riley
Director of Operations
Dean Riley is a Sophomore at American University’s Kogod School of Business studying Business Administration with a dual specialization in Corporate Social Responsibility and Informational Technology with a minor in Public Policy. In his hometown Highland, New York, Dean served as president of his school’s Model UN team and founded the first high school led Model UN conference in the Hudson Valley. This past year he worked in operations for both WIRC VI and AmeriMUNC VI and is truly ecstatic to be the Director of Operations for WIRC VII. In his free time, you can find Dean bopping to Beyoncé, hosting board game nights with friends, or watching reruns of the Golden Girls.
Emily Devereaux
Director of Education
Emily Devereaux is a sophomore from Gloucester City, NJ (“It’s like basically Philly!” -Emily). She studies in the School of International Service, focusing on global health and the Middle East. She also minors in both economics and public health. Emily is on the Model United Nations team at AU and looks forward to serving WIRC as the Director of Education. Her favorite part about WIRC is seeing all of the delegates be challenged and grow in the new skills they are learning, and she can only hope to help make this educational activity more challenging, engaging, and exciting. In her free time, you can find Emily scouring the streets of DC searching for the perfect gluten-free bagel (while complaining about gluten-free options accordingly), drinking way too much coffee, and reading about history. To relax, she does yoga or she plays Pokemon Go! (for some reason unbeknownst to many).
Taisuke Fox
Director of Communications
Taisuke Fox: Tai is a sophomore in the School of International Service studying International Studies with a minor in Economics and is from San Francisco, California. Tai has been involved with Model UN for the past six years, competed on the local and national circuit in high school, and is now on the AU Model UN Travel Team. Last year, Tai served as a Chair of the Philippine National Police Committee for AmeriMUNC VI. In his free time, Tai enjoys watching his favorite soccer team, Arsenal, hanging out with his friends and family, listening to music, and walking his dreaded sheepdog, Athena. He is super excited to welcome everyone to WIRC this November as Director of Communications!
