The AUMUN Team Finishes the Season Strong

The American University Model United Nations Team competed in two conferences this April to round out their competitive season for the 2021-2022 academic year.

First, from April 7-10, ten members of the team traveled to historic Williamsburg, VA to compete at &MUN, a crisis committee-oriented conference hosted by the College of William & Mary. There, delegates participated in engaging committees like the White Star Line Board of Directors, United Nations Security Council, and NATO with sweeping success. Thanks to all of their hard work and preparation, nearly every member of the AUMUN delegation walked away with an individual award, and their cumulative effort earned them the award for Best Large Delegation.

Just one week later, from April 14-17, sixteen members of the AUMUN team traveled to Chicago, Illinois to compete at ChoMUN, one of the largest conferences of the season hosted by the University of Chicago. These delegates dedicated countless hours to discussing important issues like journalist protections, strong institution building, bioethics, social media, and more. By the end of the conference, over 60% of the team received an individual award and the AUMUN delegation earned the second-highest cumulative score at the conference.

These conferences mark the end of the most successful season the AUMUN team has had to date, with the team garnering 96 individual awards (one-quarter of them being first-place awards) and 8 delegation awards at 13 virtual and in-person conferences. Final rankings for the collegiate Model UN circuit are expected to be released this summer, and the team is looking forward to the final results.
